A channel needs a reader

· 1 min read

The number lands in the first working week, and the meeting after it is about what to add this year.

Somebody has a deck. There is a surface the brand is not on, an audience that is genuinely there, and a cost per thousand lower than anything the account is paying now. The case is usually correct. A new line at a small share of the total is also the easiest thing in the room to approve, which is a separate fact, and it does more of the work.

From the platform side I watched a great many small and mid-sized advertisers in this region make that decision in January. The ones that grew were rarely the ones running the most surfaces.

A channel costs two things, and the budget is the smaller one.

The other is a reader. Somebody has to open it often enough to tell a real movement from noise, remember what it looked like last month, and notice the week it changed. In most teams here that is one person. They are already reading three things, and at least one of them badly.

Adding a fourth does not produce a fourth reader. It divides the one who exists, and the division is silent, because nothing on a dashboard reports that nobody looked.

So the surface goes live. It runs. It gets a screenshot in the monthly deck. Then the fasting month, expected around the start of March, arrives eight weeks later, and the account walks into the biggest trading weeks of its year with four channels and the same pair of eyes it had in December.

The honest version of the January question is not what to add. It is which of the things already running loses its reader, and that version does not get asked.
