Piece 1946Inside
A job is handed to you. Work is chosen.
Your job is a set of steps someone else wrote and handed to you. Your work is what you decide to take responsibility for, and nobody can hand you that.
Picture a delivery rider in Dubai carrying a water jug up three flights of stairs to an old man. His job ends at the door: set it down, tap delivered, leave. Instead he carries it inside and lifts it onto the dispenser, so the old man does not have to. The app only records that he was two minutes slower.
Nothing in his instructions asked for that. He chose it.
Sometimes your job and your work are the same thing. If they are, you are lucky.
Usually they are not. Your work is the part you have to claim, and then keep claiming. It is not given to you, and you cannot apply for it. It begins the moment you decide something is yours to get right, even if no one checks.
The job still matters. Do it well. But it is a plan someone else made for your day.
The job tells you what to do. Your work is what you do when nobody is telling you.
