Everyone's channel worked
Every Ramadan review I have sat in has the same shape. Everybody's channel worked.
Search reports a lift. Social reports a lift. The film moved the tracker. The trade promotion sold in. The retailer says the shelf did it. Email says the send before the month did it. The creator agency has a slide.
And the argument about credit that runs from January to December goes quiet for a few weeks, because there is enough lift in the month for everyone to hold a piece of it and nobody has to take any of it from anybody else.
Which is what makes it the most confident and least useful review of the year.
A month in which every number rises is a month in which no number carries information. The category moved. Households cook more, host more, buy more, order later, and buy things they would not have put in a basket in January. Every channel is standing in that current, measuring the water going past it, and reporting the water as a result.
The honest read is not in the month at all. It is in the ordinary weeks afterwards, once the Eid tail has cleared, set against the same ordinary weeks a year earlier. Either the month shows up there as people who kept buying, or it does not, which means it sold more to the households that were already coming.
Those weeks are readable in April. Nobody reopens the review in April, because by then the month has been written up, presented, congratulated and filed by every person who touched it.
A success that nobody has to defend is the most expensive thing a company can believe, and this month produces one every year.
