Forty assets, one idea
An account with forty creatives in it usually has one idea in it.
I have opened enough of them to stop being surprised. Forty files: the same product photograph on four background colours, the same fifteen seconds cut to nine and six, the same line in a different font, the same offer with the discount in the corner, then in the middle. Four aspect ratios of everything, because a template asked for them.
From the platform side that account looks healthy. Asset count is one of the few things a dashboard can measure honestly, so it gets measured, and a high one reads as an advertiser doing the work. The recommendation that comes back is almost always the same: add more creative. It is not bad advice. It is the only advice available to something counting files.
What the count cannot see is that all forty are arguing the same case. If the proposition is wrong, or right for a narrower group than the budget assumes, forty versions of it fail together, and they fail in a way that looks like fatigue rather than a wrong answer. The auction is not short of variety. It is short of a second position.
A real second position changes the claim, not the crop. A different reason to buy. A different person addressed. The new thing against the thing that never runs out.
Nobody counts those. There is no field for it, no column in a report, no number a team is asked about on a Tuesday. So the count of files stands in for the count of arguments, and an account can spend a year getting more productive at saying one thing.
The system is not waiting for another file. It is waiting to be told something it has not been told yet.
