Named after nothing
Friday note. I can read an account's discipline from its campaign names before I open a single number.
Platform-side you see a great many accounts at once, and the list of campaign names is the first thing on the screen. It is more honest than the dashboard, because nobody thought of it as a report.
The accounts that grow have names that say what is being tried. Riyadh, new customers, video against static, October. Bundle offer, returning buyers, second week. You can read the plan down the left-hand column without opening anything, and you can see which question each campaign was built to answer.
The accounts that stall are full of Test. Test 2. Final. Final v2. New campaign copy. Launch, with no month. A name typed in at the moment of going live by someone who needed the field to stop being empty.
Plenty of tidy accounts stall, so the mess on its own proves nothing. What a name with nothing in it proves is that nobody wrote down what the campaign was for, and if that was not written at the moment of launch it will not be recovered at the moment of review. Three weeks later the results arrive with nothing to compare them against, so the team reads the number and decides afterwards what it had been hoping for, and a test whose hypothesis was chosen after the result is a story.
The name was never for the platform. The platform does not care what a campaign is called. It was the only place the team had to write down what it was trying to learn, and an account with no name for it has no plan for it.
