Only ever met you at night
A week or so after Eid the account goes back to ordinary hours, and this time it happens on schedule. Somebody had it on a list. The night weighting comes off, the bids return to a normal day, the set-menu creative comes down, and the first message of the reset goes out at nine in the morning.
It reaches a customer who has never seen this brand in daylight.
Whatever relationship exists was built across thirty nights, at eleven o'clock, on a phone held in a room where everybody was awake and nobody was busy. That is when they first heard the name. That is when they opened the app, and when they had the time to read three lines and think about them. Every good experience they have of this brand has a dark window behind it.
Nine in the morning is a different person. School traffic, the first hour at a desk, a queue for coffee. The message is not competing with the same alternatives, and it is not being read by anybody who ever chose to hear from a brand at that hour.
Nobody measures the gap, because both halves look correct. The account was reset properly, which is a completed task with a name against it. The engagement falls for a fortnight, which everyone agrees is the season.
The settings reset in a day. The habit took a month to build, and it does not move because an administrator moved a schedule.
Permission has a time of day on it.
