Slop is a choice, not a tool

· 1 min read

A machine does not turn work into slop. A person who stopped caring does.

Every Friday, family groups across the Gulf fill with greeting images. These days someone usually spots the six-fingered hand that shows a machine made it. Ten years ago, the same groups were full of glitter roses and clashing fonts, all made by people. They were just as empty.

Slop starts when the goal becomes sending more instead of saying something. It starts when you judge your work by how little it cost to make, not by what it does for the person who receives it.

Machines make that easier. You can now fill a feed, a shop page or an inbox in an afternoon. But no tool decides what goes out. A person does, every time.

So the fix is not to avoid the machine. It is to care again. Read what you made, cut what says nothing, and send less if only a little is worth sending.

Stop asking what made it. Ask who pressed send.
