Rebuilt, not resumed

· 1 min read

In the second week after Eid a great many small accounts come back on, and they come back as new accounts.

Not resumed. Rebuilt. New campaigns, new names with the month in them, audiences drawn again from nothing, last month's structure left switched off in the account like a room nobody enters. From the platform side you watch it happen across a lot of advertisers at once, and every time it looks like diligence. A clean start after a heavy month reads as discipline.

What it buys is a second learning period, at full price, for a lesson the account already paid for in February when it was building towards the month.

The delivery system does not know that the person doing the rebuilding is the same person, selling the same thing, in the same city, to the people who were buying it six weeks ago. It sees a campaign with no history and prices it the way it prices anything with no history, cautiously and expensively, for a week or two, which is exactly the fortnight the advertiser needed it to work.

The pause itself looks free. It appears on no invoice, which is the whole reason it gets chosen, because the only cost anybody here can point at is money that has left the bank.

The saving is real and it is small. The rebuild is the expensive half, and it is chosen freely, in a good mood, by somebody who believes they are being tidy.

The system cannot tell a fresh start from a first start, and it charges for the second one.
