The Friday edit

· 1 min read

Quiet day. One tell from the platform side.

Account changes cluster at the weekend. Not the big ones, the small ones: a budget nudged down, a campaign paused, an audience switched off, a bid moved. They come in on a Friday afternoon, from a phone, from a sofa, from a founder who opened the dashboard because it was there.

The dashboard on a Friday shows half a week. Wednesday's spend is in it. Wednesday's sales mostly are not, because the customer who clicked on Wednesday buys on Saturday, and the platform will attribute the sale back to the click when it lands. So the number on a Friday afternoon is the worst it will look all week. By Tuesday the same days have filled in, and the account that looked like it was losing money was doing what it always does.

The Friday edit is made on that number.

It is the most expensive edit of the week for a reason that has nothing to do with the size of the change. It has the fewest eyes on it. The agency is off, the team is off, and nobody who could say wait is looking until Sunday, or Monday in Dubai. And it has no undo. A pause is real; the campaign that restarts on Sunday restarts as a stranger. A budget nudged down on Friday cannot be nudged back up on Sunday without the platform treating it as new money.

From the platform side you can see the cluster. A rise in changes on a Friday afternoon, a rise in performance problems the following week, and a message on Monday asking why the account went quiet.

Nothing in the number was wrong. It had simply not finished arriving.

The dashboard did not need reading on a Friday. It needed closing.
