Piece 433Inside

The part that has to be right

· 1 min read

A young man in Doha decides to sell sunglasses online.

He spends the first two months on the pleasant work. A logo, redrawn four times. A box with a magnetic lid and a soft cloth inside. A website full of slow, beautiful photographs. A name he tests on every friend he has.

Then he opens, and almost nothing sells. When he finally asks why, the answers are dull. The frames sit too wide on most faces. The price falls in the gap between the cheap pair from the kiosk and the label people actually save up for. Nobody he spoke to was looking for what he made.

Every nice thing he built was real work, and none of it counted, because it rested on a product that did not fit.

This is one of the most common ways a small brand fails, and it fails quietly, because polish feels like progress. You can hold the box in your hand. You cannot see that the frames are wrong until a stranger declines to buy them.

Every project has one part like this, the part that carries the weight of everything above it. For sunglasses it is fit and price. For a delivery service it might be arriving when promised. For a course it might be whether anyone finishes.

So begin by naming that part honestly, and getting it right while it is still cheap to change.

The logo can wait. It will still be there when there is something worth putting it on.
