Piece 520Craft

The last seller standing

· 1 min read

A man sells car parts online from a small warehouse outside Buraidah. He notices that he could undercut every other seller of the same filters and brake pads. Not by a little. By enough that, within a year, most of them would give up.

It is a tempting plan. The listings would be his. Every buyer looking for that part would end up at his door.

Then what? A market with one seller is not a market anyone enjoys being in. Buyers stop comparing because there is nothing to compare. Nobody new tries to improve the packaging, the delivery or the advice, because there is no point competing with someone who will simply cut his price again. The energy that made the category worth being in drains out of it. He has won, and what he has won is a quiet room.

A second temptation sits next to the first. A cheaper supplier offers parts that look identical and are not. His margin would double this month. Some of those cars would be back at the garage by spring.

Both plans trade the long game for a short one. The money from driving everyone else out, or from selling something that fails, arrives fast and feels like victory.

The money from a part that fits, arrives on time and lasts, earned order after order alongside other decent sellers, comes slowly. It is also the only kind that keeps coming, and the only kind he would be glad to have his name on.
