What you add to the morning
Every group of people, given a few weeks, sorts itself into roles nobody handed out.
Watch the volunteers who turn up to clear a stretch of beach in Sharjah on a Saturday morning. There are no job titles. Yet by the third week it is obvious who does what.
One of them arrives first and has the sacks and gloves laid out before anyone else has parked. One notices the new person hovering at the edge and walks over to say hello. One keeps the jokes going when the sun climbs and the sacks get heavy. One quietly fixes whatever went wrong last week, so it does not go wrong again. One is simply there, every week, the same, and the others plan around that.
Ask any of them what they do there and the honest answer is not "I pick up litter". Everyone picks up litter. The real answer is the thing they add to the morning that would be missing without them.
Less useful answers form too, just as quietly. The one who drifts in late and leaves early. The one who corrects how everyone else ties a bag. The one who turns a missing glove into a twenty-minute complaint.
The question is worth asking in every group you belong to: a family, a street, a team, a shop. Not what your part is called, but what you bring that people would notice if it stopped.
Most people already have an answer. They just never chose it.
